Information contained in this document is meant to provide a general overview of Maine Care coverage of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and other items that could be classified as assistive technology. This information is accurate as of March, 2005. The reader should note that many Maine Care policies are currently in the Administrative Procedures Act (APA) process and not reflective in this paper. Every effort will be made to update this publication as these policy changes become effective.
Information included in this document should not be considered actual Maine Care policy. For any policy interpretation questions the reader should contact the Bureau of Medical Services (BMS) directly. Copies of rules and related rulemaking documents are available at the Department's website. For a fee, paper copies of rules can be provided by the BMS.
Providers of service should be mindful that some Maine Care members have restrictions on the type and amount of services they are eligible to receive. It is the responsibility of the provider to verify a member’s eligibility for services.
NOTE: When the "MaineCare" program is referred to in this document it is written as two words so text reading Assistive Technology devices will pronounce the term correctly.
