Safety Adaptations/Specialized Access

Safety Adaptation/specialized accessibility features are covered only for Maine Care members who are enrolled in either the Home and Community Based Waiver for Elders and Adults with Disabilities or for individuals enrolled in the Home and Community Based Waiver for Members with Mental Retardation.

Examples of safety adaptations/specialized accessibility features include but are not limited to door-widening, electrical wiring, grab bars and handrails, automatic door openers/doorbells, voice activated, light activated, motion activated and electronic devices, fire safety adaptations, medically necessary air filtering devices, low-pile carpeting, and smooth or nonskid flooring needed to assure safe ambulation or wheelchair mobility.
