Any Maine citizen, whether babies or senior citizens, with or without a disability, might need to use assistive technology (AT) on a short or long-term basis. Maine CITE is pleased to offer this easy reference guide on major funding sources of AT devices and services in Maine.
Information in this guide was provided directly by the people who work for each of the funding sources. Remember, rules about funding change frequently. Once you have found a possible funder for your need, it is important to check first with that organization to make sure that the information in this guide is still accurate. If you have any questions you should not hesitate to call the person who is listed as the contact. If you go to visit the program or agency, it is a good idea to take someone with you who could help by listening to the information. Sometimes the information is very confusing. If you have questions about the services or your individual rights, it is important to remember that there are advocacy programs that can help you. A listing of some of these advocacy agencies appears in the Advocacy Agencies section.
The listings of AT devices and services in each program's section are examples of the type of device and/or service which might be funded. These are not exclusive lists. The reader should always remember that funding decisions are determined on an individual case-by-case basis.
We hope that you will find this booklet easy to use. It is intended to be a quick, easy way to help decide which funding sources might be right for you.
