How To Use This Guide

In the Funder Listings you will find an alphabetical list of all the programs in this guide. Beside each listing is the age range served. Once you have decided which funder(s) you want to know more about, simply go to that section.

On the front of each section, you will find examples of the types of AT devices and/or services which the funding source is likely to consider. If a program/agency is required by law to provide or fund a particular service or device, that information will be highlighted. It is important to remember, however, that the AT devices and services listed are only examples. Funding sources sometimes use different categories for the same item. For example, a portable ramp could be listed either as durable medical equipment or as an environmental modification. Be sure to look at all categories for the specific device you need. Funding decisions are always made on an individual basis. If you have any questions about the specific device(s) or service(s) you should call the program/organization directly.

Information on eligibility requirements and how and where to apply to the funder is on the page directly following the devices and services. Again, if you have any questions regarding eligibility or how/ where to apply, you should contact the funder.

After the eligibility and application information is a Helpful Hints section. This section can be used in several ways. The hints can be used in preparing advocacy strategies, writing justifications, and/or making appropriate referrals. Helpful Hints also highlights some federal and state agencies or programs that are allowed by law to fund AT devices and/or services, but currently do not. This information might be helpful in organizing a grass-roots effort to change those potential funders' priorities.

Following the Helpful Hints section is a link to the funder's website information. Please use this to find the funder's contact information.
