The following organizations and vendors provide demonstrations of assistive technology devices. AT Device Demonstrations compare the features and benefits of a particular AT device or category of devices for an individual or small group of individuals. The purpose of a device demonstration is to enable an individual to make an informed choice about the benefit of accessing AT. Please contact these organizations for more information or to schedule a demonstration.

Organizations Providing Demonstrations

ALLTech

ALLTech logoALLTech provides face-to-face and virtual consultation, assessment, professional development, and technical assistance to support the development of knowledge and skills for individuals who have disabilities, their families and educators, service providers, employers and health/disability-related agencies. ALLTech's comprehensive array of services include demonstrations of:
  • Assistive technology (AT)
  • Augmentative & alternative communication (AAC)
  • Universal design (UD)
  • Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM)
  • Computer accessibility

ALLTech serves individuals with a wide range of disabilities including persons who have cognitive, communication, motor, and vision difficulties.

 

Assistive Technology Collection at University of Maine Farmington

University of Maine Farmington logoThe Assistive Technology Collection, part of the Kalikow Curriculum Materials Center Assistive Technology Collection, is a resource offered free to UMF students, faculty, and staff, and to professionals in the community, individuals with disabilities, and their families. The Assistive Technology Collection provides a place to view assistive technology (AT) devices, to receive a demonstration of the AT, and to obtain information about AT in general. Many of the items may be signed out for use at home or in a school or therapeutic setting.

 

Pine Tree Society

Pine Tree Society logoPine Tree Society, with services statewide for people of all ages, offers a wide array of AT assessment and demonstrations through their Audiology and Communication services and the Kids Project adaptive equipment program.

 

Maine Center on Deafness

The Maine Center on Deafness offers the Maine Communication Access Program (MeCAP) which provides the consumer with access to a wide array of telephone equipment demo, loan, or purchase.

 

Recreation Assistive Technology Exchange (RATE)

University of Southern Maine logoRecreation Assistive Technology Exchange (RATE) at USM offers an extensive information resource and the opportunity to try out AT devices for adapted recreation such as bowling, fishing, golf, gardening, etc. When the devices are not being used for academics purposes, individuals can make an appointment to view or try a device that s/he is considering for purchase or has intentions of making.

 

Maine Handicapped Skiing

Maine Hadicapped Skiing logoMaine Handicapped Skiing (MHS) offers free access to lessons and the use of adapted skiing equipment for downhill and x-country skiing to children and adults with disabilities at Sunday River, Sugarloaf and Pineland Farms. MHS offers year round recreation programs with access to demonstration and use of AT for adapted canoeing, kayaking and cycling.

 

Northeast Passage

Northeast Passage logoAlthough not located in Maine, Northeast Passage is a nationally recognized leader in the provision of innovative therapeutic recreation services. Northeast Passage delivers disability-related health promotion and adapted sports programs throughout New England. Northeast Passage is a program of the University of New Hampshire’s College of Health and Human Services and is an affiliate of Disabled Sports USA.

Mark Hammond Associates

Mark Hammond Associates is a leader in providing Speech-Language Pathology services with a focus on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for children and adults. They also provide AT device demo, loan and sales to enhance communication.

Smart Assistive Technologies

Smart Assistive Technologies is a leading provider of AT consulting and training services in New Hampshire and Maine. Delivering advanced access solutions, AT device demonstrations for individuals with disabilities to achieve successful education and employment, they provide specialized services to meet the needs of individuals at school, home or work.

Ride-Away

Ride-Away offers a full line of adapted vehicle modifications. They have many vehicles available for demo as well up to date technology for consumers to achieve independent safe transportation. They also offer a used vehicle listing service.

Autotronics

Autotronics offers a full line of adapted vehicle modifications (vans, trucks and cars): sales, equipment installation and service to achieve independent safe transportation. They also offer a used vehicle listing service.

The New England Medical Equipment Dealers Association (NEMED)

The New England Medical Equipment Dealers Association (NEMED) has many members throughout Maine who sell and service a large array of adaptive devices, AT and medical equipment for people of all ages to use at home, school or work. Most have showrooms with equipment on display and their staff will assist with device demonstration to help consumers make the best purchasing decisions and explore payment options.
