Educators Across the State Gather in Augusta for Technology Conference

by Meghan Hayward - October 14th 2011 09:54pm

Augusta - "This is a conference for educators that use technology and education classroom. We have everybody from technicians to tech directors to classroom teachers."

Apple's Steve Jobs wasn't forgotten at the conference.

He and Apple have a strong following in Maine.

"In honor of Steve Jobs, we asked people if they wanted to wear black, mock turtle necks and jeans."

Conference chair, Gary Lanoie says technologies like Apple's are a big part of the younger population.

"I think it's technology for technology sake doesn't take the classroom but using it as a vehicle and a motivator and resource to enhance the classroom certainly is where we need to be going."

Several educators across the state are doing just that.

Shawn Kimball of Hampden Academy was named technology leader of the year.

"I'm personally a big promoter of change in schools throughout the state, especially at our school and have teachers using more of the tools that the kids are familiar with and that they'll be using in the future."
